Artist
and illustrator, Robert Van Steinburg resides in the Upstate New York
historic Mohawk Valley Region of Ilion, New York where he maintains his
studio and gallery.
Subject
matter for the artist’s landscape paintings are the quaint areas of regional
New York State and the by-ways of the coast along Cape Cod and New England.
The
artist works as much as possible from sketches done on location. Only where
considerable authenticity is required will photographs be taken. “My
sketches,” the artist says, “Allows me closer contact with the mood and
feeling of the subject area.” The landscapes of the artist are kept as true
to their actual setting as possible in the artist’s style of realism.
The
artist’s media of working with oils and Gouache-watercolors has taken the
artist as long as 4 months to satisfyingly complete some paintings.
Much of
the artist’s work is commissioned and many of his paintings reside in
private homes and companies throughout the northeast region and in other
sections of the country as well.
The
artist is currently under contract with several major companies where a
number of his landscape paintings are reproduced and published nationwide
for a line of Christmas card and design book illustrations.
Mr. Van
Steinburg holds BFA Degrees in Painting-illustration and Art Education from
Syracuse University, and is a member of the Central New York Water-color
Society. The artist’s busy working schedule allows for only a small number
of exhibitions during the year.
